About

I am currently a vice-principal at Riverside Public School in beautiful Huntsville, Ontario.  Go Rams!  =)   Riverside is a dual-track school, offering Kindergarten to grade 8 in English, and Kindergarten to grade 3 in French.  We have an enrolment of about 425 students and about 40 staff members.  I am a .5 vice principal and .5 teacher, so my days are very busy and filled with action.  The best part of my job is that I get to interact with all parts of the school community, have a hand in setting direction for my school, and I still have lots of time with students, which is really what it’s all about!  I am also a wife, a mother of four, an artist, and a beach lover with a thirst for knowledge, focusing on creativity, innovation, resiliency and building relationships.

I am a special education educator at heart, having spent most of my career either in classrooms for students with learning disabilities, or as a special education consultant.  Apart from that, my main passions at school and in my leadership journey thus far are in school mental health and mathematics, which, luckily for me, also happen to be the focus of my school and board this year.

Over the course of the last two years, I have been fortunate to have participated in a number of professional development opportunities in these areas, including principal learning teams, attending/participating in OPC sponsored mathematics workshops for school leaders, a ministry working group on mental health in schools, Bridges out of Poverty training, and a LEAP exchange that allowed me to shadow an Australian principal (‘hey’ to Stacey and the gals at Yeo Park Infant School in Sydney!) for ten days.  I love learning, and sharing my learning with others!

This is my first attempt at a website/page/blog, so if you’re actually reading this – thanks!  And keep in mind I’m a newbie and trying this out for the first time.  Thanks for visiting!
